Where Are My Game of Thrones/ Fantasy Lovin' Ladies At?
During one of my late-night Pinterest trolling sessions, I stumbled into a whole sub-sect of "wearable armor." While astoundingly gorgeous (made even more impressive when you come to learn that 90% of it is hand-made), a lot of it still leaned a little heavy in the cosplay department for me.
If you're all about being bold and not giving a fuuuuuuuu about sporting a full leather plated bodice while scooting up the aisle at Ralph's, then FOR SURE start delving into Pinterest, because they have some gorgeous sh*t.
For my personal tastes, however, I like folks to have to search for my weird, so I enjoy making my statements with "accents" rather than the whole she-bang. With that in mind, the one thing I kept coming across was a "Vegan leather ("pleather" to non-Hipsters) high-necked (aka; turtle neck) scale-mail accent armored long sleeved top. It looks too good to be true (and I'm prepping myself that it probably is...because I've ordered it).
It was posted all over Pinterest and every single pick I clicked on, led me to a "page not found" or "this item is no longer available" webpage. Eventually, I tracked a few on Ebay for around $80.00, but the sellers didn't have any reviews or ranking that I could find and so I just didn't trust it.
I kept looking and eventually managed to trace the shirt to two sites. One called Gracia.com. and the other, Kamishade.com. There, not only did they offer the shirt I'm looking for, but they also had a version as a mesh top (that also came in a nude color option) and a body-con sheath dress.
The shirt is on the borderline of pricy (but, IMO, if I end up getting what it actually portrayed in the photo, rather worth it for its uniqueness). That said, the shipping costs were horrific! $14.00 for basic shipping! Which means that this is being sent from overseas so...A) Is it even going to show? B) How long is it actually going to take? C) At this moment, my "quality" alarm is going off.
Kamishade.com isn't really faring much better. The pictures they're showing on their site seem to show a shirt of higher quality (the blacks match in tone, Offer small - large sizes rather than just small - medium), but the cost is much higher at $104.00 before S&H. Again, similar to Gracia.com, there are no buyer reviews that I can find for either the site or the shirt and so it's another "buy at your own risk" endeavor.
Having rolled the dice and shopped at similar sites in the past my experience tells me that no matter which site I choose to order from, I'm going to end up with something passable at best and un-wearable at worst. I'm guessing that this shirt will rank up there as a Yesstyle.com level of quality (or Forever 21 for a U.S. comparison): Cheap fabric and pleather, strings hanging off, fun for a few wears until it eventually falls apart or just becomes so cheap looking that I have to give up on it. Then again, you just never know! I've had surprise hits come from cheap places before and although those moments are rare, when they DO happen, they make you feel like a lotto winner.
Expect an update on how this all plays out once I get the item! It's just too potentially awesome to not risk the possible failure (plus...I could always return it, right??)
